News, happenings and goings on from the Old Fire Station, Oxford
Shop at the Old Fire Station is (quite literally) buzzing; spring is on the way and we’re lining the shelves with loads of new stock – including some stunning collobarative work with students from Banbury and Bicester College.
Bees & Weeds is a project organised by Pale Blue Dot in conjunction with the Oxford Natural History Museum and Banbury and Bicester College. It highlights the plight of the bumblebee, investigating why some species of bumblebee are declining and the impact this is having on us – from what we eat to where we live and work. As part of the project, the art students involved have created a range of merchandise, which we’re proud to be selling in the Shop. The work ranges from prints of wild flowers, to lavender bags, worry bees and aprons- all created with care to use environmentally sustainable materials and processes.
Jane King of Pale Blue Dot has also done a Shop Window installation as part of the project, featuring bike seat covers that were designed and made by the art students, drawing on more floral and insect imagery. They were installed across the city in a ‘bike seat intervention’ a few weeks ago, and also at the Broken Spoke Bike Coop on Pembroke Street.
